Climate change is an important issue that affects all of us. Natural disasters and other issues related to climate change will remain as a constant threat until we attempt to address them. The future belongs to the younger generation, and we believe is our duty to initiate change sooner rather than later.Beacon: Climate Change Awareness Week is designed to encourage elementary school students in Brooklyn to become involved in climate change initiatives. This program is a recreation-based initiative that offers an opportunity to engage, educate and raise awareness in an effort to combat climate change. This proposal is specifically directed to elementary public schools in Brooklyn; by implementing a series of activities and events for an entire week, we intend to address important climate change issues affecting the borough of Brooklyn. With this plan, the existing NYC Climate Week will be supported and built upon. Thus, Beacon: Climate Change Awareness Week will take place the same week as NYC Climate Week in order to maximize the impact of the initiative.
